Hey, in this post are some of my pictures of my summer camping trip to the english lakes.
If you haven’t been to the Lake District make sure you find some time to check it out.

There is a lot of awesome scenery with ample opportunity for great camping photos, some really good campsites that will cater to every taste from large commercial type ones with their own shops and shower blocks etc to small boutique type one where you will share the campsite with a couple of sheep!

If you are into hiking there are loads of trails to walk with great views and plenty of options for all abilities.

I went with my new son and found some trails that where suitable for pushchairs or strollers but we also had a rucksack that we could put him in which was helpful.

the other half isn’t so keen on big walks as me and wild camps so i guess i will have to wait until the little boy is a bit bigger and we can go off exploring!

I will put up some more photo’s in another post, some of these look a bit moody with the weather but mainly we had a pretty good time not too much rain and the scenery made up for it!

If you have got to this point there is a good chance you already know about this tent and what it can do and are just looking for the best place to buy. The retailer we recommend for this tent is Rockcreek.com this is because they offer a great price on the hellion 2 and also throw in a FREE footprint. Overall we believe they are the best place to purchase the Mountain Hardwear Helion 2.

As I mentioned before the Helion 2 is the lightest tent in Mountain Hardwears range part of the reason for this is the new ultralight components that have been developed exclusively for Mountain Hardwear to bring the Helion 2 in under 3 1/2 lbs. Other parts to the weight loss and great design of the Helion 2 is MHW’s patented Evolution Tension Arch which provides strength when the weather turns nasty and the all-mesh canopy that reduces weight and provides excellent ventilation.

This is straight from Mountain Hardwears website:

“The Helion 2 sets a new benchmark for Superlight tents obliterating the “2 person, 4 lb. barrier.” The new hollow-core 25D nylon fly fabric weighs 25% less than the industry standard 30D, the Superlight grommet tab system shaves 3 oz. and the new Atlas UL™ poles with variable tube diameter reduces the overall material used without sacrificing strength. This combination of innovative features brings the weight of the Helion 2 down to a mere 3 lbs., 5 oz.”

Its not just us that think this is a great tent, Nationl Geographic adventure Magazine gave Mountain Hardwear the best adventure gear award in 2008 for the Helion 2 Tent. They said this about the tent:

“We expect creativity from Mountain Hardwear, but the Helion 2 tent is in a class by itself. One of the lightest backpacking tents in its category, it impressed us with innovation at every turn, from its hollow-core fabric to the sculpted poles,”  National Geographic Adventure Magazine editor Steve Casimiro.

Of course the Mountian Hardwear Helion 2 Tent has a lot more features than the ones we have discussed so far, including the pitch light system that allows you to pitch the Mountain Hardwear Hellion 2 using only the footprint and the fly. Below are a list of the other features as well as the specs.

The Marmot Twilight is another amazing tent from a leading manufacturer in the camping industry.

This roomy but lightweight backpacking tent will give you all the support you want from a lightweight 2 person 3 season tent and more. The reasons that make this tent stand out are pretty simple but make a huge difference to your camping trips. For starters the tent is lightweight with a maximum weight of 5 lbs 9 oz so you wont need shoulders like Arnie to carry it in your back pack.
 Marmot Twilight 2p Tent

Marmot Twilight Tent (2 Person)

Click here to buy at a fantastic price!

It is also extremely quick to put up which will be a pleasant surprise if you are used to clunky old tents. This is due to Marmot’s clever design tricks including the hub pole system basically you put the poles up and clip the tent to the poles then you throw over

the fly and clip that down, stake out the large vestibule and job done. Ok there is a little more to it than that but not a lot! Also the bare bones system allows the fly to be used on its own as a super quick/ super lightweight shelter, another clever trick from Marmot.

The Marmot Twilight has all the waterproofing you would expect from a 3 season tent including fully waterproof and seam taped fly and a fully waterproof floor with taped seams that are lifted off the ground in a bathtub style for extra protection.

The 2 large vestibules covering 21 square feet and 2 doors on the twilight give extra storage and practicality options. As do the included gear loft that simply clips on the inside of the top of the tent and allows you to store gear out of the way. Storage is also aided by the handy pockets on the inside of the twilight 2p

To keep a check on the weather situation there is a UV resistant window.

Camping is a great way to escape the rat race and be one with nature. Alas, your camping experiences can fade with time. The best way to prevent this is to keep a camping journal for your adventures.

Camping Journals

Take a minute to give some consideration to your most recent camping experience. What sticks out in your mind? Now think about the first time you ever went camping. Undoubtedly, you remember few things about the geography, people you went with, particular camping routes and spectacular views. The experiences youíve forgotten are lost to time. If you keep a camping journal, this won’t be the case.

There are famous instances of people keeping journals throughout time. Of course, Anne Frank’s Diary is the best example. In her diary, Anne kept a running commentary of the two years her family spent hiding from the Nazis. While your camping experiences better be more lighthearted, keeping a journal will let you remember them as the years pass.

A good camping journal combines a number of characteristics. First, it should be compact so you donít have to take up unnecessary space for other things. Second, it should have a case to protect it from rain, spills and so on. Third, the journal should contain blank areas to write your notes. Fourth, the journal should contain cue spaces to remind you to keep notes on specific things. Cues should include:

1. Who you went camping with,

2. Where you camped and if you enjoyed it,

3. Who you met and contact information for them,

4. The geographic and weather conditions, and

5. Any unique things that occurred while camping.

At the end of the camping trip, you should be able to get the following from your journal:

1. Contact information for other campers and people you met,

2. Enough detail to provide you or a friend with a guide if you camp in the location a second time.

3. Memories to reflect upon years later, and

4. Something to pass on to your friends, children and grandchildren.

To get the most out of your camping journal, you should write in it during while you’re camping. Every trip is special, even if you just go out for a weekend.

Camping is a great way to commune with nature. Make sure to preserve the experience.

The North Face Vario 23

North Face Vario 23 tentThe North Face Vario 23 tent is yet another great tent as you would expect from a company such as North Face. The two person super lightweight tent is designed to offer comfortable camping for 2 on long and short camping trips, hikes and expeditions.

There are several features that make this tent stand out from the others in this category. One of the main ones being this tent won the 2008 top single wall tent award from backpacker magazine. If this is not enough of a reason for you to buy alone here are a few more reasons.

  1. The super light weight of the Vario 23 with a maximum weight of 4 pounds 5 ounces makes this a great tent for long distance hikes without weighing your backpack down.
  2. The Vario uses an upper level lift vent, what this does is enable the tent to work with the wind rather than against it like most tents leaving you to ride out the storm in a much more comfortable way.
  3. Although there are 2 large vestibules one on the back and one on the front the back one is just for ventilation. The vestibules are just over 6 square feet each which gives you plenty of room for storing kit in the front one.
  4. Waterproof fabric with sealed seams and fully taped floor ensure you are kept dry during the worst the weather can throw at the Vario.
  5. A High/Low venting system creates airflow through the tent via the mesh vents to help stop any condensation build up.
  6. Several internal pockets in the tent ensure you have plenty of options for storing your gear.
  7. The Vario is very quick to pitch thanks to the microclips that enable you to clip the tent to the poles rather than  fiddle around pocking poles through holes.
  8. The Vario comes with a full lifetime warranty from North Face.

To sum this tent up I think it is a very well rounded 3 season 2 person tent that will provide you great comfort and a peaceful nights sleep knowing you are protected from the elements. It also has the MAJOR advantage of not being too heavy or taking up too much space in your back pack.

==>To Get hold Of This Great Tent Click Here Marmot Alpinist 2p Tent<==

There are many reasons that make this tent so good, one of the first is the ability to be put up super fast – just what you need when that storm hits you out of nowhere. Another of the best features of the alpinist is the weight at just 4lbs 15 oz it weighs in lighter than most of the competition.

The tent is fully waterproof with factory taped seams (most tents don’t have this) the ground sheet is designed so the seams are raised off the ground to make double sure water can’t get in, it also utilizes Marmot’s “Storm Pitch” system so you can pitch the tent fast in storm conditions and not get any rain or snow on the inside of the tent – another major plus point!
 Marmot Alpinist 2p Tent

Other great feature’s of the Marmot Alpinist 2p is the built in vestibule allowing you to store kit outside the living area of the tent, another feature that most tents don’t have, as is the high storage pockets on the inside of the tent giving a handy space to store your torch.

The tear drop window on the front of the vestibule is also very useful allowing you to keep check on the weather conditions from inside the tent.

Also another great feature that sets this tent apart from the rest is marmots knees system on the poles which gives more space inside the tent by making the bottom of the tent walls to be almost vertical, Marmot do this without losing any strength in the poles or in the tent structure.

These are some of my favorite features that I think make the Marmot Alpinist 2p tent a wise choice, below are the specs from marmot.
